We’re looking for a gameplay animator that understands the constraints of gameplay animation and thrives in creating interactive experiences. Our game is exploring the intersection between story and gameplay and pushing interactivity, so we need someone that’s able to tackle the challenges that come with player input and is able to think in creative, nonstandard ways about animation; someone who is able to understand gameplay systems, gameplay design, and character creation, all while honing their animation skills. This role requires someone that is always thinking about the high-level goal we are trying to achieve as a team; someone that is willing to be part of a small team that is constantly evolving on how we tackle challenges in any area.

Some of your responsibilities Include:

  • Create animations for the different characters and implement them in Unreal.
  • Communicate with Engineers to create new tools, nodes or systems for a particular feature.
  • Prototyping, ideating, experimenting with how the characters move, behave, feel and look through Unreal Blueprint scripting.
  • Collaborate with all members of the team to bring characters and their world alive.
  • Creative problem solving on how to create the best animation systems within a small team.

Required skills:

  • Experience developing games; personal or student projects are acceptable.
  • Excellent character animation skills including non-human characters.
  • Knowledge of
    • Maya and Unreal
    • Layering animation.
    • Additive animation.
    • Player systems: locomotion, traversal, etc.
    • AI characters: path finding, navigation, etc.
  • Team player with strong communication skills.
  • Proactivity and can-do attitude.
  • Creative and efficient problem solving.

Super Powers:

  • Maya/ Unreal Tool writing experience.
  • Experienced with stylized animation.
  • Unreal Procedural animation experience: Control rig, IK, Dynamics, etc.
  • Cinematography knowledge.
  • Rigging and character pipeline experience.
